Everything has changed, but our passion for furniture springs remains

Since 1935, the world has changed in many ways, but one thing has remained constant: EWES' passion for manufacturing springs for the furniture industry. Today, we specialise in seat and backrest springs for office chairs as well as brake springs for height-adjustable desks. But that’s not how our story began…

From tension springs to nozag
Our journey began with tension springs, securing chains in place under the mattresses of iron beds used by Swedish recruits during their military service. From these early days, we expanded production to include springs for cushions and upholstered furniture. By the mid-1950s, the Nozag spring made its debut—a zigzag-shaped spring that revolutionised the furniture industry. We at EWES embraced the Nozag trend, investing in a specially designed Nozag machine, followed by two more, all running in three shifts. We proudly say that EWES played a significant role in the Swedish furniture industry, where our Nozag springs became the standard solution for upholstered furniture.

Nozag finds new life
Today, Nozag springs are still used in furniture production, though our machines have moved from our Bredaryd facility. Now, they are housed at our subsidiary in Bosnia, where they have produced springs for the domestic market for five years. Up to 1 million Nozag springs in various configurations now bring comfort to sofas and beds.
